When on weekends, I love staying with my family and watch movie or just simply bonding with my parents and siblings to have some time together. Of course, as being the only daughter, i see to it that it's not my favor always and instead, give time to understand my brothers and father which has the same likes.

Keep fit on a shoestring budget

whoever said physical fitness can only be achieved by enrolling at an upscale gym or boxing classes? think out of the "fitness fad" box and you'll be amazed to discover how many of our daily routine tasks can help us keep fit in a fun and inexpensive way.
here are some useful tips:
  • have a TV workout! - that's right! just tune in an exercise channel on TV and have a blast doing the latest dancercise work out. enjoy this convenient and hassle-free way of keeping fit right in your own home.
  • equip yourself, the cheap way - one you've decided to work out at home, you'll need some exercise equipment. this doesn't mean you'll have to invest and shell out a big sum of money for equipment. canvas for second-hand weights, dumb bells, tread mill, etc. chances are, a couple of friends have the very things you are looking for. who knows maybe they'll just give those untouched, unused, practically new equipment to you for free?
  • walk that stretch - if you drive to work, try parking at a place some distance away from your building or if you take bus get off at a bus stop a kilometer away. walking this distance will invigorate you and jump start your hectic day at work.
  • climb the stairway to health - in this day and age of high rise buildings and skyscrapers, this may be an insanely impractical idea - use the stairs! your office may be located just in the second or third floor so you have no excuse - use the stairs! so what if your office is all the way up the 50th floor? try getting off at the 48th, 47th or even the 45th floor. then you know what to do - use the stairs!.

ulcers not caused by Stress

one myth goes down the drain. inflammation of the stomach (gastritis) and ulceration of the stomach or duodenum (peptic ulcer) are not caused by stress but are infections of the stomach caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori.
Robin Warren and Barry Marshall took home the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for this surprising discovery. Warren, a pathologist from Perth, Australia, noticed small curved bacteria colonizing the lower part of the stomach in about 50% of patients from which biopsies had been taken. he made the important observation that signs of inflammation were always present in the gastric mucosa close to where the bacteria were seen.
Barry Marshall, a young clinical fellow, became interested in Warren's findings and together they made a study of biopsies from 100 patients. after several attempts, Marshall succeeded in cultivating a hitherto unknown bacterial species (later denoted as Helicobacter pylori) from several of these biopsies. their study firmly established that Helicobacter pylori causes more than 90% of duodenal ulcers and up to 80% of gastric ulcers. further studies have shown that patients could be cured from their peptic ulcer disease only when the bacteria were eradicated from the stomach.

hot hair tips to beat the summer heat

your hair may never grace a shampoo commercial but it's no reason not to take care of your crowning glory.here's a helpful guide for the hot day:
  • wear a comfortable scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the sun, something that will not restrict circulation in your scalp.
  • use a leave-on conditioner on your hair if you don't want a headgear.
  • use a regular sunscreen if you have no leave-on conditioner. but wash with a deep cleansing shampoo after.
  • if you have to use "hot" items such as blow dryers and curling irons, again, use leave-on conditioner before using them.
  • try natural products that are gentler on your hair instead of those with formaldehyde or alcohol.
  • wash your hair less often. shampooing strips the hair of moisture.
  • try dry shampoo if you need to wash your hair, like a baby powder. sprinkle some onto your hair and comb it off.
  • wet your hair first before going into the pool orr ocean. this will decrease absorption of chlorinated or salt water into your hair.(haircareguide.com)

Benefitsof Prenatal Massage

July is a month for nutrition and for this year, Philippines has the theme of "Sa wastong Nutrisyon ni Mommy, siguradong healthy si Baby" which obviously talks and concerns about the pregnant and to be pregnant women. So, here are more facts of having a healthy pregnancy:

Pregnancy can carry with it many discomforts that women may never experience without it. The growing abdomen causes you to shift your center of gravity such that your spine has to assume a more lordotic (bending backwards) position. That’s why pregnant patients constantly complain of backaches.
It’s a time when women would appreciate a good massage but therapist should be careful to avoid the points that may trigger premature labor. This is the reason why it is important to find someone who is trained to do massage on pregnant women.
What are the benefits of prenatal massage?
ü It can alleviate neck, back and joint pains.
ü It can relieve cramps and muscle spasms.
ü It can help maintain skin elasticity and possibly help ease stretch marks.
ü because of its ability to lower catecholamines (stress hormones), it helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation thus alleviating headaches, sleep problems and even possibly lower blood pressure.
ü Due to the nurturing touch it provides pampering, emotional support and physical nurturing, particularly for moms who feel so alone by the physical or emotional absence of the father.
ü It enhances the self-esteem of the pregnant woman.
ü It helps the pregnant woman become aware and feel more at home with the changes her body is going through.
ü It develops the sensory awareness and relaxation necessary to be an active and responsive participant in the birth experience.(Rebecca Singson, M.D., F.P.O.G.S., Rebirth Spa, Asian Hospital, T-771-9206)

Ways to cut down your electric bills

  1. switch to fluorescent lights. You can cut down more than half of your lighting consumption just by doing away with incandescent bulbs. Don’t let the more expensive price of CFLs fool you. They last more than ten times longer than normal incandescent bulbs and run on one-third or one-fourth the power for the same brightness. Get the branded CFLs though, not the cheap ones you find in bazaars. They may be cheap but they don’t last long.
  2. adjust the thermostat on your air-con. Some people like the feeling of being Eskimos when they turn on their air-conditioners. But studies show that the most comfortable temperature for people in a public place is around 26 degrees. Every degree you go above 26 degrees decreases the power consumption of your unit by 8%. Also, clean your air-cons regularly. Clean filters save energy too.
  3. turn off your electric air pots and the hot water in your water dispensers. Other households keep the hot water on all day for one or two cups of coffee. This uses up a lot of energy. If you need hot water, use kettles or a covered pan to boil it. Or if you need just a cup for your coffee, use the microwave.

What’s the color of money?

Do you know that colors have an impact in attracting customers? Blue is the energy color. It is proven to increase man’s energy. Production people produce more output and muscle builders build more muscles in a blue room.
Red is the color of food. It increases the body’s metabolism, thus, in restaurants, it invites people to crave more and eat more.
Hunter green is the money color. It is bound to influence. Dove grey is the business color. It is the color most executives use. (graphicdesign.about.com/od/psychology)

Money 101: Setting Priorities

Setting priorities is a most important component in managing your finances. Here are some things to help you prioritize:
narrow your objectives. Identify your goals clearly and decide which are the most important and why.
focus on the goals that matter. To accomplish primary goals, you’ll have to set aside equally desirable but less important financial goals.
be prepared for conflicts. When this happens, ask yourself the question, will one of the conflicting goals benefit more people than the other
put time on your side. Money stashed in savings account or invested in stocks and bonds will grow. The more time you have the more chance you have of success.
choose carefully. Your list of goals should help you feel financially secure, happy and fulfilled. This may include getting out of debt, or paying for the kid’s tuition. After the list is done, rank the items in order of importance.
include family members. Include your wife or husband, and kids too, in the goal-setting process.
start now. Don’t procrastinate or you’ll have more difficulty reaching your goals.
sweat the big stuff. Keep your spending on course once you’ve done prioritizing your goals. If a big expense is not getting you closer to your goals, try to defer or reduce it.
don’t sweat the small stuffs. Most of what you will continue to spend will be for daily expenses. That’s okay as long as the long-range needs are also provided fro.
be prepared for change. Your needs and desires invariably change. You should also reexamine your priorities at least every five years.

Parkinson's Drug Can Trigger Compulsive Gambling

Is a loved one suddenly having problems with compulsive gambling? If the person is being treated for Parkinson's disease, the cause may lie in his medication.
Researchers are looking into the connection between compulsive behavior and a specific dopamine agonist, pramipexole, which is used to treat Parkinson's.

Dopamine is a chemical naturally produced by the human body. It plays an important role in the brain's control of movement. It is linked with addictive behaviors and pleasurable experiences such as drugs, sex and food. A shortage of it, however, causes Parkinson's disease. This means that treating the disease with dopamine can possibly cause the patient to seek addictive behaviors such as gambling, hyper sexuality and overeating.

Despite the strong link between the two, there's still no firm evidence to support the theory. In the study they conducted among 529 people taking pramipexole, only 1.5% developed gambling behaviors. (cnn.com)

The Benefits of Fasting

Fasting is not just for the spiritual. Some nutrition experts advocate fasting for purely health reasons.
For societies like America where people eat rich diets, fasting for 24 hours allows the digestive system to rest from all that processed foods.
Below are some of the known benefits of fasting:
Detoxification – he body has a built-in process of eliminating toxins through the colon, liver, lungs, lymph glands and skin. Fasting hastens detoxification because when the body doesn’t take in food, it draws from its fat reserves for energy. When these fats are converted to energy, they release the chemicals from the fatty acids into the body’s system and are exerted.
Healing – fasting diverts energy from the digestive system to the metabolism and immune system. Tumors and other abnormal growths are deprived of the body’s usual supply and become more prone to self-destruct. Also, the body is able to produce protein to replace damage cells more efficiently resulting in healthier tissues and organs. This is the reason why people lose their appetite when sick with tonsillitis or colds: so the body can divert its energy from the digestive to the immune system.
Longer life – fasting also lowers the core body temperature. And because hormone production is more efficient, the body releases growth and anti-aging hormones. The results are rejuvenation and a longer life. (serendip.brynmawr.edu)

Integrating Exercise within Your Day

It's easier than you think. So before you make an excuse that you have neither the time nor the energy for exercise, try these tips:
  1. Ten minutes of walking everyday increases your fitness level. So even if you don't sweat at the gym for hours, you can be fit as well. At least that's what new studies show.
  2. Exercise your abs in bed. Een before getting up, lie flat on your bed and do ten crunches. Increase the number of sit-ups each day until you reach 100.
  3. Play active games with your peers. It's a great aerobic activity and the fun thing is, it doesn't feel like exercise!

Childhood is the Most Important Stage in Life

According to Pope Benedict the XVI, childhood is the most important stage in a person’s life.
“In this first stage, inclinations to vice and virtue begin to show,” the Holy Father said. “That is why God’s law must be impressed on the soul from the beginning’ as on a table of wax,” he added.
Pope Benedict was giving his reflection on St. John Chrysostom when he gave his insight a few months back. He highlighted Chrysostom’s teaching on the stages of life, explaining that the saint “tried to assist, through his writings, the integral development of the person, in the physical, intellectual, and spiritual dimension.”
The Pope added: “We must be aware how important it is that in this first phase of life the major orientation that gives the right perspective to existence is truly enter into man. That’s why Chrysostom recommends: “From a very young age, arm children with spiritual weapons.” (zenith.org)

budget well in order to save

every month is a perfect time to take up a topic that many of us would probably rather not think about - budgeting. but as a map guides us, so does the budget.
income is the first consideration to make in budgeting. we need to find out how much we earn in order to budget well. it is in budgeting well that we will also be able to save. here are some steps to take:

  • make a four-column list. the first column would have income on top with expenses below it. the other columns would include Expected, Actual and Difference.

  • list down your expected income and your expected expenses.

  • daily list down your expenses in a small notebook then transfer the numbers in your four-column list at the end of the month.

  • now you can tally the difference between your Expected income from your Actual income as well as from your Expected Expenses from your Actual Expenses.

  • Analyze your expenses.you might need to tone down or remove other expenses altogether.of course, if you have a debt, then you need to make a plan to slowly pay off the debt.

saving should be included at the top of your Expected Expenses list so you are encouraged to pay yourself first through saving. then budgeting will not only become an exercise in futility but a creative pursuit towards achieving positive plans and goals. (finance.yahoo.com)

learning to breathe well

though we breather day in and day out, many of us probably that there's a healthy way of breathing.
our lungs and heart prefer for us to breathe slower, longer and deeper - around six or eight deep breaths per minute. this is not only more healthy, this also helps us to manage stress. deep breathing sends a signal to our brain to slow down, which results in hormonal and physiological changes that slow down our heart rate and lower blood pressure. keep these in mind on breathing well.
  • inhale slowly and deeply through the nose. this should take about five seconds.
  • exhale slowly trough the mouth, emptying your lungs completely.
  • use your diaphragm for good breathing. That's the sheet of muscle along the top of your abdomen. it pulls down your lungs up when you expel air. when you inhale well, your lungs should puff up as your diaphragm drops. when you exhale well, your diaphragm rises.(rd.com)

Teenaged Girls’ Weight Affected By Perceived Social Standing

Teenagers, having problem with your weight? You might want to check this out.
Researchers led by Adina Lemeshow of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene found that teenaged girls who considered themselves on the lower rung of the social ladder were more likely to put on extra pounds.
The researchers analyzed questionnaires completed by 4,446 girls, aged 12 to 18, in 1999. the questionnaire included information on their height, weight, television viewing habits, diet and other factors, including their perceived social standing in school. Girls who rated themselves four or below on a 10-point scale of social standing were more likely to put on extra weight over the next two years than those who said they had a standing of five or higher, the researchers said.
“Our findings suggest that low school subjective social status may be an important contributor to increase in BMI on girls over time,” the researchers commented. (nlm.nih.gov)

Lack of Hope considered “dark evil” by Pope

What is the “dark” evil of modern society according to Pope Benedict XVI?
According to the pontiff, it is the “deficit of hope and trust in life which constitutes the ‘dark’ evil of modern Western society.” During the first Vespers of the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God in Rome, the Pope asked the Lord “in His mercy” to help individuals and families whose lives “are weighed down by serious shortages and poverty which prevent them from looking trustingly to the future.” He dwelt on “the many challenges…associated with consumerism and materialism,” adding how, “even in Rome we notice that deficit of hope and trust in life which constitutes the ‘dark’ evil of modern Western society.”
The Pope added however “there is no shortage of lights and of reasons for hope” for which we must “implore special divine blessing.” (ewtn.com)

Saving on Your Grocery Budget

Many of us today would bemoan that we hardly have enough for our food budget. But there are ways to save on grocery expense. Check out these suggestions:
  • Limit your visit to the grocery. It saves not only time but also money. If you just take that trip every two weeks or so. Buy your supplies at the grocery, which is cheaper, instead of at the convenience store.
  • Check out the items on sale. Include the discounted items on your meal plan. It’s easy enough to replace what you have on your list to what is available.
  • Choose the lower-priced brands. It may not seem much to you but it will add up over time so choose the lower-priced brands.
  • Grow your own food. This is a cheap way to eating healthy, but if you don’t have the space or the time, buy your products at the local farmer’s market.
  • Know the menu. In case you want to get away from your own cooking, there are cheaper menus even in upscale restaurants. Check out the menu online, if they’re available, or make sure to order only what you can afford.(healthy.yahoo.com)

Whole-Grain Cereal Prevents Heart Attack

Change your usual rice or pandesal breakfast for a whole-grain cereal. A new US study has found that those who eat this kind of cereal were 28 percent less likely to develop heart failure than those who never ate a whole-grain meal.
The Physician’s Health Study was conducted on nearly 10,500 doctors from 1982 to 2006. Doctors who ate whole-grain cereal two to six times a week had a 22 percent reduced risk of heart failure, while those who ate whole-grain cereal up to once a week had a 14 percent reduced risk. In the study, breakfast cereals were considered whole-grain if they contained at least 25 percent oat or bran content.
“the significant health benefits of whole-grain cereal are not just for kids but also for adults. A whole-grain, high-fiber breakfast may lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol and prevent heart attacks,” said Dr. Luc Diousse, the study’s lead author and assistant professor of Medicine in the division of aging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Becoming more and more like Jesus

Did you know that going to mass grants you the grace for continual conversion? The Eucharist is not just nourishment for our souls but is also “a remedy to free us from our daily faults and to preserve us from mortal sins,” says the Council of Trent. Other devotions, like reading the Bible, praying the Liturgy of the Hours and the Our Father, and every sincere act of worship or prayer helps revive the spirit of repentance in us, and contributes to the forgiveness of our sins. Tips for Your Crowning Glory

They say that the crowning glory of a woman is her hair. Follow these suggestions to make sure your glory shines bright:
  • What you eat is important. Fill your diet with vegetables and foods high on Vitamin A, C, B complex, iron, iodine and copper.

  • Use only a dab shampoo. Your hair doesn’t really need that mush shampoo. If you have the lather you want, add a little more water. Too much shampoo will strip your mane of oils and will contribute to flyaway hair.

  • massage the lather into your hair. Don’t rub or you may cause damage to your hair.

  • blot your hair with a towel. Again, rubbing your hair might cause damage at a time when it’s vulnerable.

  • treat your hair to an egg shampoo once a month. Whisk one or two raw eggs and then work it into your hair. Allow it to dry and then shampoo out, followed by a vinegar and water rinse. This will add protein to your damaged, tinted or fragile hair. It cleanses our hair without removing its natural oil. (beauty.about.com)

Prayer Combat Stress

Have you ever worried about getting into an accident, losing money or being attacked? Stressful thoughts such as these can be combated through relaxation techniques such as praying the Our Father, Hail Mary or the Rosary.
Dr. Herbert Benson, director of the Mind/Body Medical Institute in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and a Harvard University associate professor of medicine, suggested daily relaxation techniques for about 10 to 20 minutes to combat stress. Stress occurs when people are in a situation that requires them to change behavior patterns. “Stress evokes a flight response. It prepares you for running or fighting,” explained Dr. Benson.
A repetition technique “allows us to tap into the inborn capacity we have to combat stress,” said Dr. Benson. “For a religious person, this is contact with God.” These techniques decrease metabolism, lower the heartbeat and “quiet down the brain,” he added.
According to Dr. Benson, stress releases a hormone, norepinephrine that can cause or worsen existing diseases, while relaxation techniques release nitric oxide, which counteracts the stress hormone.
“I can’t overemphasize the importance of the early training of Catholics in prayer,” said Dr. Benson, a Jew. “In the West, for Catholics nothing beats the Rosary,” he added.

True Satisfaction

Becoming rich and famous does not guarantee contentment. if it did, multimillionaire athletes would not jeopardize their careers by using illicit drugs. if it did, a wealthy lawyer would not have tearfully said that he would gladly trade everything he had for a change in the behavior of his sons. if it did, the occurrence of multiple marriages among celebrities would not be commonplace. obviously contentment must come from a source other than wealth and fame.
In Ecclesiastes 5, Solomon said that because of sinful people rule the world, we shouldn’t be surprised when the poor are oppressed and when justice and righteousness are denied. the life of those who love money is not as rosy as it seems. they are never satisfied with what they have, and they face the emptiness of watching other people consume their riches. the humble laborer, content with little, can sleep soundly, while rich man lies at night worrying about his money.
how about other people? us? are we frustrated or satisfied? Paul wrote that we are "not to be naughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy". only when we trust in the Lord will we find true and lasting satisfaction.
"discontentment makes rich man poor;
contentment makes poor man rich!"

Strange but True: Leaving Trails Behind

It is one thing to track down sent information through the Internet Protocol(IP) address where you last logged in, but tracking through printers used is something that looks like next to impossible. But tracking through printers can be done. the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a consumer privacy group based in San Francisco in the United States, was able to crack the code behind tiny tracking dots that common laser printers hide in every document. The tracking dots-which are yellow-are invisible to the naked eye, according to Seth Schoen, an EFF researcher. but when viewed under blue light and through a magnifying glass, the dots can be used to identify the date and time a document was printed and the serial number of the printer, said Schoen.
Secret service officials in the US revealed that more than 50% of fake money comes from color laser printers. so, they are using only the code to track down counterfeiters and not to pry on people's computer activity.
Privacy advocates, however, expressed that law enforcement agencies even common citizens may abuse the technology and that there's no law to stop them. EFF lawyer Lee Tien said that the "problem is that tracking counterfeiters also means putting in technology that allows you to track every document."
EFF is publishing light printers that produce codes, including at least 80% of models on the market. "we think people ought to know what their printers are saying about them," said Schoen.

Respect

leaders agree it's all about the people. you're only as good as those who work for you. a great CEO listens to others, feels their concerns, delegates authority, and nurtures the company's talent, writes Barry. respect is a two-way street- give respect and will earn it. "always treat people with dignity and respect, particularly those who work for you," Merck and Company's Raymond Gilmartin advises. "not only is this appropriate behavior - if you follow this principle, you will attract and retain talented people, which you will find is essential to your success."

I Signed up for PPP!

At last my blog has been approved by the Payperpost staff. I thought I would miss this thing. The reason why I am so excited about this is I could benefit from many things. First, I could express my thoughts about the different products that will be assigned to me for advertising. Next is that I could enhance my vocabulary and writing and typing skills since I will be dealing with words and grammars while working with this. And the best one is that my effort will not be obsolete. My effort will all be worthy. By just advertising their products well and showing to people online how their site is worth visiting and purchasing, then you will be get paid. Not that simple paying but every post that you will make, you can earn from it and at least use it for necessary expenses. I once heard about this PPP from my friend and told me that I could earn so I became really interested and since I have been blogging for quite a long time now, so I tried to register and look! tips for divers and snorkelers

  • before booking a reef trip, check weather conditions; it's best not to go out in rough seas. poor visibility, strong winds and waves reduce safe interaction at the reef.
  • remember that even the lightest touch with hands or equipment can damage sensitive coral polyps.
snorkelers should wear float-coats to allow gear adjustments without standing on the coral.
  • avoid contact with the ocean bottom, divers should only use the weight needed and practice proper buoyancy control. lifeless areas may support new growth, if he left undisturbed.
  • please don't feed fish; it destroys their natural feeding habits, and you might be injured.
  • remember, it's illegal to harvest coral in Florida and purchasing it at local shops only depletes reefs elsewhere.

Tips for Boaters and Fishermen

  • bring your trash to shore and recycle it.

  • avoid collecting fish - most die within one year.

  • avoid harassing fish and invertebrates; it only makes them wary of people.

  • it is illegal to dump trash at sea; plastic bags and other debris can injure marine animals. try to retrieve fishing gear and equipment, especially lines.

  • accidental boat groundings damage the reef. prop damage destroys shallow seagrass beds. consult tide & navigation charts and steer clear of shallow areas. remember, "Brown, brown, run aground. blue, blue, sail on through."

  • use reef mooring buoys if available. otherwise, anchor in sandy areas away from coral and seagrasses so that anchor and chain do not drag or grate on nearby corals or tear-up seagrass beds.

  • practice good seamanship, and safe boating. maintain a safe distance from fisherman. know and observe size and catch limits; release any fish you can't eat.

  • avoid wildlife disturbance by staying at least 200 feet offshore, keeping speed and noise to a minimum, and avoiding boat wakes near isolated mangroves.

  • camping, campfires, and collecting of any kind is prohibited on all National wildlife Refuges. personal watercraft and airboats are prohibited in all National Parks.

God and Marriage

God himself is the author of marriage. God, who created man out of love, also calls him to love. The Bible affirms man and woman were created for one another - an unbreakable union signified through the words, "So they are no longer two, but one flesh." The mutual love of man and woman becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves man.
God blesses the union of man and woman, which is intended to be fruitful and to be realized in the common work of watching over creation. Because of the fall, their union has been threatened bu discord, a spirit of domination, infidelity, jealousy and conflicts. To heal the wounds of sin, man and woman need the help of the grace that God in His infinite mercy never refuses them. (catechism of the catholic church, nos 1601-160 )

fish keeps one smart

a fish a day keeps you smarter each day. this could be the catch phrase as a result of three separate studies on fish consumption.

a Norwegian study conducted on 2,000 elderly people found that those who ate more than 10 grams of fish per day had markedly better cognitive performance than those who ate less than 10 grams of a fish a day.

a Dutch study of 404 people, ages 50 to 70, found that those who had higher omega-3 fatty acid concentration showed lower decrease in cognitive measures.

and a New Zealand study of more than 2,400 people showed consistent association with high presence of omega-3 with physical and mental health. the studies were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

according to Dr. Irwin Rosenberg, of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Boston, while there is a growing evidence of such an association, there is a need for randomized clinical trials to confirm the link.

keeping your skin healthy in summer

The sun is up and the world is a bright and beautiful place to explore in. there is no doubt about that. But while you’re at it, keep your skin as pretty, too, by following the tips below:
1. Go easy on heavy moisturizers as summer makes the skin oilier.
2. Hydrate your skin from within by drinking plenty of water.
3. If you’re prone to breakout, combat that by switching acne skin care products. And exfoliate your skin.
4. Protect your skin from the sun by using sun block. Start with SPF 15 or if you are fair and your skin burns easily, start with an SPF 30 sun block.

Macara:The Basic Black Dress of Cosmetics

The mascara is the “basic black dress” of cosmetics. It is always in style and offers a great deal of versatility and options. Here are some tips on using mascaras:
1. Mascara comes in a variety of shades and colors. Get a more natural look by wearing something closer to your natural hair color, or create a dramatic effect by wearing something that would enhance your eyes’ looks.
2. There are two main varieties of mascara – regular and waterproof. Regular mascara is easier to remove and it can be less irritating to the eyes. Waterproof mascara, of course, would be good when you go to the beach or the pool. It is resistant to smearing and streaking, even when you shed tears.
3. Never use someone else’s mascara. The eyes are very sensitive and the germs that others have live with are different from the ones that your body is used to. These foreign organisms can easily infect your eyes.
4. Most mascara is only good for about three months. After that, it tends to be contaminated and dry. Avoid moistening the mascara with your saliva or with tap water. Again, this can cause infection.
5. Many doctors recommend using baby shampoo to remove mascara. Rub a little on your eyes and then rinse with water. (health-and-beauty-worx.com)

Coal as an Alternative Source of Energy

Abundance and economy are major reasons why coal is very much in use as fuel. At the current rate of world consumption, coal reserves can still last for another 200 years or so.
Burning coal’s contribution to carbon dioxide levels is a major drawback though. Add to that the contribution to acid rain due to sulfur and nitrogen oxides released during combustion.

Fax Sans the Landline

Ditching the landline will soon be a popular choice among customers as cell phones and broad band Internet become more popular. For those who believe that they need to hold on to their landlines to keep sending and receiving faxes, Internet fax services will prove them wrong.
Internet options allow the user to send a fax message to a fax machine via e-mail, with the recipient’s fax number fed to the “To:” field. Electronic faxes require little management while saving more – never runs out of paper or ink.
EFax offers a free fax-receiving service. A user is assigned a fax number with a random area code. Senders must pay toll charges, though. EFax charges 10(USD) cents per page to send faxes in the United States. Rates for other country vary. Faxes are forwarded to recipient’s e-mail address as an image or PDF file.

fast facts about metal detector

Let us talk about metal detectors.
Most detectors have a maximum depth ranging from 8 inches to 12 inches. The depth is affected by several factors.
• The type of metal detector – VLFs and PIs are more accurate than BFOs.
• The type of metal present in the object – objects with iron produces stronger magnetic fields
• The size of the object – smaller objects are harder to detect
• The composition of a soil – a disadvantage, since there are minerals that act as metal conductors.
• The interference of other objects such as pipes, cables, and power lines present in the ground
• The items halo – if a metal has been buried in the ground for a long time, it is able to affect the soil by increasing the conductivity of the soil.

Since that we have come to this metal detector topic let us also consider its uses and applications especially when in work-related to metal detectors uses a variation of the PI technology, but most of the handheld devices use the BFO technology. Its use at work can be seen in:
• Airport/building/event security – for scanning the luggage and those who are entering the airport/building/event to ensure the safety of the majority
• Item recovery – used to recover lost items such as jewelry
• Archaeological exploration – for detecting significant metallic items.
Aside from treasure hunting, metal detectors give individual leisure:
• Coin shooting – hunting for coins, be it old or current coins. Coin shooting is usually done in beach or after an event, such as a concert.
• Prospecting – aims to detect valuable metals such as gold nuggets.
• Relic hunting – detecting metals with historical value, such as weapons used in civil wars.

mysterious rays

Did you know that x-rays were named as such, because the inventor didn’t know the nature of this discovery at that time?
On November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a German physicist, noticed that a fluorescent screen across his laboratory room started to glow when the electron beam of his tube was turned on while he was experimenting on light phenomena and other emissions coming from gas discharge tubes.
The discovery would have not been surprising, because fluorescent materials normally glow in reaction to electromagnetic radiation, but Roentgen’s tube was surrounded by heavy black cardboard blocked most of the radiation.
Realizing that he discovered something interesting but not sure about his observations, Roentgen pressed on. When he placed various objects between the tube and the screen (paper, thick book, and solid block of wood), the screen still glowed.
Over the next seven weeks, Roentgen explored the mysterious rays and finally, he discovered their most beneficial application by putting his hand in front of the tube. He saw the silhouette of his bones projected on the fluorescent screen.
On December 28, 1895, Roentgen sent a preliminary report of his experiments to the Wurzburg Physical-Medical Society, accompanied by experimental radiographs and by the image of his wife’s hand. In January 1896, the world experienced an “X-ray mania” and Roentgen celebrated as the discoverer of a medical miracle. He was awarded the first Nobel Prize in physics in 1901 for his phenomenal discovery.

Cultured Burgers Anyone?

Is it possible to enjoy a juicy hamburger minus fat?
A new study conducted by Jason Matheny and colleagues at the University of Maryland (UM) revealed that it is possible to produce meat that is not only healthier for consumers but environment-friendly, too. The researchers from UM described not only one but two possible ways to produce healthy meat using new tissue engineering technology.
One method involves cells grown from the muscle tissue of cattle, pigs, or fish in large flat sheets on thin membranes. According to Matheny, these flat sheets of cell (tissue) could be stretched and grown, then removed from the membranes. A stack of these flat sheets can resemble meat of desired thickness.
The other method grows muscle cells on tiny three-dimensional beads that stretch with small changes in temperature. The resulting tissue could be used to produce processed meat, such as chicken nuggets or hamburger patties.
One of the many benefits of cultured meat, according to Matheny is that nutrients can now be controlled. Healthful omega-3 fatty acids, found in walnuts and fish oils, could be substituted to meat’s omega-6, a fatty acid desirable only in small amounts.
Matheny said that “cultured meat could also reduce the pollution that results from raising livestock, and you wouldn’t need the drugs that are used on animals raised for meat.”
Statistics show that raising livestock requires millions of liters of water and hundreds of square meters of farmland. Meat grown from tissue engineering would bypass these requirements.

april fool's day!

April Fool's Day is traditionally a day to play practical jokes on others, send people on fool's errands, and fool the unsuspecting. No one knows how this holiday began but it was thought to have originated in France.
The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. New Year's was celebrated on March 25 and celebrations lasted until April 1st. When New Year's Day as changed from March 25 to January 1st in the mid-1560's by King Charles IX, there were some people who still celebrated it on April 1st and those people were called April Fools.

Pranks performed on April Fool's Day range from the simple, (such as saying, "Your shoe's untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate's alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. The news media even gets involved. For instance, a British short film once shown on April Fool's Day was a fairly detailed documentary about "spaghetti farmers" and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, "April Fool!"

April Fool's Day is a "for-fun-only" observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their "significant other" out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It's simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool!

Each country celebrates April Fool's differently. In France, the April Fool's is called "April Fish" (Poisson d'Avril). The French fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs and when some discovers a this trick, they yell "Poisson d'Avril!".

In England, tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a "noodle". In Scotland, April Fools Day is 48 hours long and you are called an "April Gowk", which is another name for a cuckoo bird. The second day in Scotland's April Fool's is called Taily Day and is dedicated to pranks involving the buttocks. Taily Day's gift to posterior posterity is the still-hilarious "Kick Me" sign.

Fuel from Seawater?

scientist's quest for an inexpensive and renewable energy source continues. and how their sight is set upon the largest body of water that is the sea.
turning seawater into fuel is indeed a noble pursuit. but how would scientists do this?
the method - nuclear fusion (the same the way the sun produces its energy) - isn't easy, but the 30-nation conglomerate that spearheads the world's quest for alternative fuel source is well on its way to power the world with energy from seawater. its ITER (international thermonuclear experimental reactor), the world's first nuclear fusion reactor found in France, is envisioned to be operational in seven years (although critics argue that it would take at least 50 years before a commercially feasible reactor is constructed.)
the $15.7-billion experimental reactor, which promises a 500-megawatt output, will use deuterium (extracted from seawater) as its major fuel. a giant electromagnetic ring will be used to fuse atomic nuclei at extremely high temperatures.
in the past, scientists have been harnessing power from fusion in laboratories. despite the decades of research, a commercially viable reactor had never been built. the biggest challenge lies on building a reactor that is capable of sustaining temperatures at about 100 million degrees Celsius, long enough to produce power.
Ian Fells of the Royal Academy od Engineering gave the project a 50:50 chance of success. "but the engineering is ver difficult. if we can really make this work, there will be enough electricity to last the world for the next 1,000 to 2,000 years," he says.

holographic versatile disc

a holographic versatile disc is a memory storage device that uses an advanced optical disc technology known as collinear holography. it offers far greater storage capacity (up to 3.9 terabytes) and faster transfer rate compared to existing compact discs (CDs) and digital versatile disc (DVDs). even the touted next-generation optical disc formats Blue-ray (27GB) and high density-DVD (15GB) pale in comparison with HVDs.
collinear holography - an advanced technique that allows an image to be recorded in three dimensions-uses two lasers (one red and one blue-green), which are combined and made parallel into a single beam. the red laser is of similar wavelength that common DVD technologies are using, while the blue laser technology affords higher storage capacity and superior resolution.
in HVDs, the blue-green laser reads the data encoded as laser interference fringes from a holographic layer near the top of the disc, while the red laser is used to read the servo information from aluminum layer near the bottom. servo or "positional control" information is used to monitor the position of the red head over the disc, similar to the head, track, and sector information on a conventional hard disc drive.
the main advantage of HVD over other disc formats is the used of dichroic mirror layer - between the holographic data and the servo data - which reflects the blue-green laser while letting the red laser pass through. this prevents refraction interference of the blue-green laser (of servo data pits), making the HVD compatible with current CD and DVD drive technology.

physicists explore "dark energy"

cosmologists, believe that a mysterious force known as "dark energy" is behind the reason why the universe is expanding at a faster rate. now, scientists are comparing seemingly unrelated astronomical observations to study the mysterious energy.
american scientists Eric Linder of Berkeley Lab and Robert Caldwell of Dartmouth in the United States are working to discover how dark energy interacts with the universe. in their paper, to be published in Physical Review Letters, Linder and Caldwell described two scenarios that could be used to rule out Einstein's cosmological constant and explain the nature of dark energy. the cosmological constant is a vacuum energy-the energy of empty space-that keeps gravity from pulling the universe into itself.

Linder and Caldwell call the two scenarios as "thawing" and "freezing." these scenarios are models that point toward distinctly different fates for a permanently expanding universe. in the thawing scenario, the acceleration of the expansion will gradually decrease and eventually come to a stop. expansion may continue more slowly, or the universe may even collapse. on the other hand, under the freezing scenario, acceleration continues indefinitely.

both of these scenarios rule out Einstein's cosmological constant.

"a problem with the cosmological constant is that it has the same energy density and pressure over time. dark energy, however, had to be negligible in the universe's earliest stages; otherwise the galaxies and all their stars would never have formed," said Linder.

Linder added that dark energy will govern the expansion of the universe and ultimately, its fate, because "dark energy makes up about 70% of the content of the universe, so it dominates over the matter content."

artificial intelligence in your cars

the technology behind vehicles powered with artificial intelligence is heading toward popular cars - with features like collision and lane-departure warnings and adaptive cruise controls using external sensors. researchers hope the technology will help car makers include features that could cut down on the number of traffic deaths caused by inattention or intoxication. it is envisioned that vehicles powered with artificial-intelligence software (sporting the ability to "see") will be staple in the United States military within 10 years.

all things small

nanoscience is an interrelated disciplinary field of science devoted to the study of nanoscale phenomena. it involves the manipulation of atoms, molecules, macromolecules, quantom dots, and macromolecular assemblies.
nanotechnology, on the other hand, is the practical application of nanoscience. it is the general term for activities at the level of atoms and molecules that have applications in the real-world. it is a field of technology development and application involving very small things. it involves creations and inventions that utilize sizes in the nanometer scale, usually measuring 0.1 to 100 nanometers (one nanometer is equal to one billion of a meter. nanotechnology includes many strategies to create structures at a size scale below 100 nanometer(nm)).

the ns2 defense

just this morning, as a last day of our final exam, we also had our defense of our experiment in our major project.
throughout the experiment making, i was really pressured and we don't know what to do. even deciding on what to do first because everything seems to be our priority. there are a lot of paper works to submit for one subject and we were really complaining in ourselves since we can't complain in front of our professor...
we divided the paper works among my group mates but still it wasn't enough to lighten the burden. everything seems to be really messy and unorganized.
when we did our experiment, it was like a bad luck. we tour around the market to look for the materials we needed. and the worst is we broke a 1000ml PYREX beaker that cost 375 php. we damaged the table in the laboratory because we placed the very hot surface of the beaker into the table that damaged the paint.
then later that afternoon, we were suppose to rest because we don't have our 1pm class. but instead of taking a rest, my other group mates decided to replace the beaker that afternoon immediately. so we went to different branches of drugstores where equipments was also sold. we had the very hard time looking for that type of beaker because mostly were out of stock until we reached UM bolton, near the annex building just barely walking from the main campus in bankerohan and the weather was also quite bad because it was drizzling.
but at the end, we still succeeded replacing the beaker and going up and down the stairs with about 120 steps (it wasn't that exhausting!!!)
great lesson I've learned, DO THINGS ON TIME and THINK BEFORE YOU ACT (dili mag tinanga!!!)
going back with our defense last morning, it was also successful. we were able to answer the questions raised by our professor amidst the fact that we weren't totally ready. we were rushing in doing the visual aid but still gave us a good comment from our professor.
glad we made it up!!!

Panda's Mating Habit Under Surveillance

deep in the wild of Foping nature reserve in central Shaanxi province in Beijing, China, global positioning systems (GPS) is being used to keep watch on giant pandas and their mating behavior.
no, this is definitely not a modern-day style of seeking sordid or scandalous sex in the animal kingdom. scientists in China believe GPS is a good way to avoid panda extinction.
according to Wei Fuwen of the China Academy of Sciences' Institute of Zoology (CASIZ), tracking the pandas with advanced technology and observing their sexual activities "might help us find ways to avoid their extinction. giant pandas are inaccessible for long periods of time, and traditional observation cannot unravel the ecological mystery of the animals."
studies show that pandas in the wild are recovering from the brink of extinction, but they are not yet out of danger. this is due mainly to the great difficulties in producing cubs. almost 80% of female pandas were unable to conceive while 90% of males were sterile, according to a study by CASIZ researchers conducted in 2001 to 2004.
statistics show that barely 1600 of the pandas are alive in the wild today. these animals mostly inhabit the high, fog-covered mountains of China's southwest Sichuan province while more than 150 live in captivity.
giant pandas are unusually discreet animals when it comes to mating. the $660,000 joint project between China and the United States Zoological Society of San Diego is vouching on the use of GPS sensors to find out what is really happening behind the bamboo leaves.

Does Cirrhosis Caused only by Alcoholism?

Cirrhosis is a chronic disease that results in scarring and decreased function of the liver. initial symptoms of the disease include red palms, red spots in the upper body, increased in size of the parotid glands, and fibrosis of tendons in the hands.
contrary to popular belief that alcoholism is the only cause of the disease, cirrhosis has many possible causes, and sometimes more than one cause is present in the same patient.
hepatitis B is the most common cause of cirrhosis worldwide, especially in Southeast Asia. hepatitis B causes liver inflammation and injury that over several years can lead to cirrhosis.
in the US, alcoholism and hepatitis C are the most common causes of cirrhosis. cirrhosis may also result from hepatitis B or C, hemochromatosis, Wilson's disease and even severe reactions to prescription drugs. in children, cirrhosis may be cause by cystic fibrosis, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and glycogen storage disease.
liver damage due to cirrhosis is irreversible, but treatment can prevent or delay further progression and reduce complications. healthy diet is encouraged as cirrhosis is conceivably an energy-consuming process. salt intake and high-protein foods are restricted. alcohol and other potentially damaging substances are discouraged.
a liver transplant is necessary if complications cannot be controlled or when the liver ceases to function. liver transplantation procedures have been increasingly successful since the 1990s. presently, the rate of survival from liver transplantation has reached 90 percent.

On Celiac Disease

Celiac disease is a long-term digestive disorder caused by gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and oats) and affects both children and adults. it is a disease that damages the small intestines and interferes with the absorption of nutrients from food (such as carbohydrates, fat, proteins, and vitamins).
Celiac disease is sometimes regarded as a childhood disease, because its symptoms, such as diarrhea, growth failure, and failure to thrive, occur during childhood. but the disease can also manifest its initial symptoms in adults of any age. symptoms include bloating, diarrhea, abdominal pain, skin rashes, anemia, and even osteoporosis. celiac disease is a hereditary disease with sometimes vague symptoms are attributed to other conditions. it may cause such nonspecific symptoms for several years before being correctly diagnosed and treated.
it was generally believed that the disease was a rare, but recent data prove otherwise. in the United States, alone, one out of 133 Americans has the disease. it can even be more common in Africa, South America, and Asia than previously believed. tracing the family tree of a person diagnosed with the disease can zero in at one out of 22 people having the disease.
People who have been diagnosed of the disease should avoid taking any food containing gluten, with or without the symptoms.

Cholesterol is Bad for Your Health

Do you know that fifty years of intensive studies led the American Heart Association to conclude that there is no proof that a low-cholesterol diet is observed from early adulthood decreases the incidence of heart attacks. Medical science has firmly established that high cholesterol levels found in atherosclerosis (a constriction of blood vessels that can lead to heart attack or stroke) are a result of complex disorders of lipid metabolism and artery wall damage, not a result of the cholesterol we ingest.
Cholesterol is a fat-like steroid that plays essential role in many biochemical processes for the body’s healthy operation. it is an important component of the cell membranes that provide stability, and has important functions in the synthesis of steroid hormones. majority of the cholesterol found inside the body is produced in the liver and this internally formed cholesterol has the same likelihood of depositing as plaques in the artery as much as dietary cholesterol.
Having a high cholesterol count is only one symptom of an extensive somatic disorder. if excess cholesterol is eaten, the body immediately reduces production of cholesterol for people within normal ranges of cholesterol counts. this indicates that powerful internal controls of cholesterol levels are present. pathological levels of cholesterol in the blood result from disorder of these controls and not the cholesterol eaten.

1st Day of March

this night was a parade of the gorgeous and handsome sophomore students of the uic college dep’t on their second p.e night with the theme "fine dining". students, especially the lady naturally has to prepare. they got to wear their best dresses with there outstanding hair do and make up that would make them feel beautiful and confident.
man also have to prepare themselves and make them feel handsome for it is a rare occasion where they can mingle with own peers and other sophomore students in the different programs.
it was a night of glamour, chatting, picture taking to reminisce with the moment in the future and of course disco! everyone had really fun. everyone were sweating swaying their bodies and doing their moves in the groove with their favorite party music and also love songs with their partners. it was just so romantic when a love song is being played. how i wish my crush had invited me to dance with him. but unfortunately,he did not. i didn’t even saw him in the dance floor. i still had enjoyed the night with my friends and former IT classmates. we were doing some foolishness to make the most of our one-of-a-kind night.
it’s all thanks to our p.e instructors.and also congratulations to those who have won the crown as star of the night.

Love to Hate them

i might come out selfish at this but i can't help myself.
whenever i am at the house seems like i want to stay more outside. there are just people here that i don't want to be with. i don't know why i hate them so much.
the more i live here, the more i come to hate them...
personally they just don't reach my standards(sosyal ko kay naa koy standards para sa mga tao diri). maybe because they take advantage with the people around them. they always depend on the things around them. they don't even know how to clean up and organize things which pisses me off. they put their stuffs anywhere in the house(mga damak!).
"naa pa isa ka hari-harian diri demanding kaayo when it comes sa trabaho murag si kinsa.when he would really come to think of it,he is really very fortunate everytime he applies for a job because he gets hired easily and eventually he just take all the works for granted,he even gets promoted in no longer time. dili macontento sa unsay naa.gusto nya ginasilbihan sya.feeling royalty bah!!!gusto siguro niya 1 million iyang monthly sa trabaho.kung ana iyang style, wa syay future.manghold-up na lang sya.baga sya ug nawng naga linkgod-lingkod lang sya diri. gahulat ug gaba...aw!grasya diay...forgive me Lord!...
we're just of contradicting principles and beliefs maybe...i know i have to respect him as my uncle but it's been a long time that i lost my respect for him.not totally but somehow,i am still trying to show that.
i just wanna express my hurts and pains and anger through this blog.
