Benefitsof Prenatal Massage

July is a month for nutrition and for this year, Philippines has the theme of "Sa wastong Nutrisyon ni Mommy, siguradong healthy si Baby" which obviously talks and concerns about the pregnant and to be pregnant women. So, here are more facts of having a healthy pregnancy:

Pregnancy can carry with it many discomforts that women may never experience without it. The growing abdomen causes you to shift your center of gravity such that your spine has to assume a more lordotic (bending backwards) position. That’s why pregnant patients constantly complain of backaches.
It’s a time when women would appreciate a good massage but therapist should be careful to avoid the points that may trigger premature labor. This is the reason why it is important to find someone who is trained to do massage on pregnant women.
What are the benefits of prenatal massage?
ü It can alleviate neck, back and joint pains.
ü It can relieve cramps and muscle spasms.
ü It can help maintain skin elasticity and possibly help ease stretch marks.
ü because of its ability to lower catecholamines (stress hormones), it helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation thus alleviating headaches, sleep problems and even possibly lower blood pressure.
ü Due to the nurturing touch it provides pampering, emotional support and physical nurturing, particularly for moms who feel so alone by the physical or emotional absence of the father.
ü It enhances the self-esteem of the pregnant woman.
ü It helps the pregnant woman become aware and feel more at home with the changes her body is going through.
ü It develops the sensory awareness and relaxation necessary to be an active and responsive participant in the birth experience.(Rebecca Singson, M.D., F.P.O.G.S., Rebirth Spa, Asian Hospital, T-771-9206)
